Wireless charging has become almost like a default feature that we expect all smartphones to have these days, so it doesn’t come as a surprise that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S10 could also come with the feature. In fact according to a recent sighting at the FCC, the Galaxy S10 could feature even faster wireless charging than before.
For the most part, wireless chargers these days cap out at around 10W, however based on the FCC filing, Samsung’s wireless charger is rated at 15W which means that in theory, should the Galaxy S10 be capable of supporting it, the phone should be able to charge faster than most other smartphones.
Assuming the phone can support such speeds, it means that this wireless charger could offer charging speeds on par with the Samsung Fast Charge. This should change the perception that wireless charging is slower than wired (which for the most part it still is). That being said, we’re still waiting on the day to come when “true” wireless charging comes when the need for a wireless charging pad is not necessary.
In the meantime Apple is also said to be working on their own wireless charging pad in the form of the AirPower, and it will be interesting to see if it will be capable of matching Samsung’s speeds given how closely each company competes against each other.
